Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 3 green plantains
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 cup water for soaking
  • 2 cloves garlic optional, for soaking water

Instructions 

  1. Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.
  2. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Fry the plantain slices for about 3 minutes on each side until they are golden.
  4. Remove the plantains and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  5. Flatten each plantain slice using the bottom of a glass or a tostonera.
  6. Soak the flattened plantains in a mixture of water, salt, and garlic for a few seconds.
  7. Fry the plantains again for about 2 minutes on each side until they are crispy.
  8. Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt to taste.
