Ingredients

  • 1 package phyllo dough thawed
  • 2 cups pistachios chopped
  • 1 cup butter melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions 

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. 2. Butter the bottom and sides of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  3. 3. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  4. 4. Sprinkle a thin layer of chopped pistachios over the dough.
  5. 5. Repeat layering with phyllo dough, butter, and pistachios until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of phyllo dough.
  6. 6. Cut the baklava into diamond shapes using a sharp knife.
  7. 7. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes, until golden and crisp.
  8. 8. While baklava is baking, combine sugar, water, honey, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  9. 9. Remove baklava from oven and immediately pour syrup over it. Let cool completely before serving.
