Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Warm water 110°F
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast or 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • ¼ cup Baking soda for boiling
  • 1 large Egg beaten, for egg wash
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions 

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, whisk warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. 3. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. 4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. 5. Divide dough into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into pretzels.
  6. 6. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Boil pretzels for 30 seconds each.
  7. 7. Place pretzels on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  8. 8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
