- 1.5 cups applesauce
- 1 cup sugar
- 0.5 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
- 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 cup raisins (optional)
- 0.5 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the applesauce.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Gradually add to the applesauce mixture, stirring until just blended.
Fold in the raisins and nuts if using. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
Bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool before serving.
